Who We Are
Alight, formerly the American Refugee Committee, has empowered displaced communities since 1978. We aim to walk alongside displaced people, co-creating impactful programs and services tailored to their unique needs. Instead of referring to them as "beneficiaries," we proudly call them our "customers," emphasising their agency in shaping decisions that affect their lives. We strive to amplify our global reach and impact with our four affiliates.
Our Vision and Context
In a world where over 120 million people are displaced due to conflict, persecution, and climate change, Alight is committed to addressing this growing crisis. Women and children, often the most vulnerable, face compounding challenges in these situations. As instability and climate change exacerbate displacement, our work becomes more critical than ever—ensuring a future where dignity, joy, and purpose are within reach for all.
Our Mission
We are dedicated to building meaningful lives for the displaced by meeting basic needs and creating opportunities for joy, dignity, connection, and purpose.
Our Approach
At Alight, we believe in the power of collaboration. We work with displaced communities through a human-centred, co-creative approach, trusting their insight and expertise to design solutions that genuinely work for them. This innovative model sets us apart, ensuring that our programs resonate with the voices and needs of those we serve.
